Why Voice Control?
Typing can be difficult if you have arthritis, vision problems, or simply prefer speaking over typing. Voice control lets you ask for help naturally, just like you would ask a family member.
AssistApp understands natural language, so you do not need to memorize special commands. Just speak normally and ask your question.
Two Ways to Use Voice Commands
Method 1: Wake Word - "Computer, Help"
Simply say "Computer, help" out loud, then state your question. AssistApp will start listening when it hears the wake word.
For example, you might say: "Computer, help. How do I attach a photo to an email?"
Method 2: Push-to-Talk with Space Bar
Hold down the space bar on your keyboard, speak your question, then release the space bar when you are finished. This method gives you more control over exactly when the computer is listening.
Many people prefer this method because it is clear when AssistApp is actively listening to you.
Tips for Clear Voice Commands
- Speak at a normal pace - not too fast or too slow
- Use your regular speaking voice - no need to shout
- Try to minimize background noise like TV or radio
- If AssistApp doesn't understand, simply try rephrasing your question
- Be specific - instead of "email," say "How do I send an email?"
Your Privacy is Protected
Many people worry that voice assistants record everything they say. With AssistApp, your voice recordings never leave your computer.
All speech processing happens locally on your machine. Nothing is sent to the cloud, stored permanently, or shared with anyone. When you stop speaking, the recording is immediately processed and then deleted.
What You Can Ask
AssistApp can help with almost any computer task. Here are some examples of what you might ask:
- "How do I print this document?"
- "Help me attach a photo to an email"
- "How do I change my password?"
- "Show me how to make the text bigger"
- "How do I save this picture?"
- "Help me set up a video call"
What If It Doesn't Work?
If voice commands are not working well for you, do not worry! You can always type your questions instead by clicking the "Ask" button on the toolbar and typing in the text box.
You can also check your microphone settings in AssistApp's settings menu to make sure the correct microphone is selected.
Practice Makes Perfect
Like any new skill, using voice commands gets easier with practice. Start with simple questions, and as you get more comfortable, you will find yourself using voice control more often.
Many users tell us they love voice control because it feels like having a conversation rather than fighting with a computer!
